This Saturday we’ll be celebrating the Freewheel Cycling Club and La Vuelta

We’re  celebrating the first six months of The Freewheel Cycling Club and everyone is welcome, members and non-members.

The day begins with a Club Breakfast from 9am. Tea or coffee and a bacon or sausage sandwich for just £4.

At 10am there’s a mass social ride which is back at The Freewheel by 1pm for a Barbecue. For a bit of extra fun and friendly rivalry, the Roller Racing jigs will be set up for anyone to have a go.

Saturday is also the last racing day of La Vuelta, the Spanish equivalent of the Tour de France, concluding three weeks of intense competition. We hope Chris Froome maintains his lead and is heading for an historic victory.

We’ll be showing the racing live on the big screen in The Workshop at The Freewheel. Stage 20 on Saturday is a short, (117.5km) but very tough mountain stage. The route is from Corvera de Asturias to Alto de l’Angliru. As it’s the final racing stage the riders will give it their all, so we are in for a good show.

We’re going to be celebrating in Spanish style. We’ve recruited our very own Graveney Spaniard and food connoisseur, Anna, to produce authentic Spanish dishes including tapas and Pinchos Vascos. You can enjoy Anna’s dishes with San Miguel, Sidra – traditional Catalan Cider, Rioja and of course, Sangria.

On Sunday the final stage of La Vuelta will serve to crown and receive the Vuelta winner in the Spanish capital. The three weeks of hard work, sacrifice and suffering will be rewarded with a stage that will take the peloton through the heart of Madrid in order to bring the 72nd edition of La Vuelta to a close.

Live coverage starts at 2pm on Saturday and 3pm on Sunday.
